Many recliners today have a release cable to open the mechanism. Some manufacturers refer to this part as a parachute pull, pull handle or even a flapper, but whatever you call it, it’s generally referred to as a #%!@*&! when it breaks. If it has been over a year since you purchased your furniture, it may be out of warranty- so you may be referred to a repair service to fix it. If it has been several years, you may even find it next to impossible to find the correct release cable. Here is a link where you can find a cable that will fit most all brands of recliners: Amazon.com.
